The story is that in Ice Hockey when players rotate frequently on and off the field, that the most valuable player at the end of the season is the player who was on the field the most times when goals were scored. That is - it didn't matter if the player was actually the one who scored a goal or not - just as long as when the final adding up was done that he was on the field more times when scoring goals occured. That is: he was GOALS ON. And therefore most VALUED.
I love this story and have shared it many times over the years and have found it has resonated with team members who themselves may never be actual scorers, but who feel more empowered to help the whole team succeed.
Let me know if this works for you or if you have another story of "teamship" rather than purely a focus on "leadership".
